TIPS FOR THE DARK SIDE
TIPS FOR THE DARK SIDE There are two bloglands; one blogland exists with the glitched old format on the light side, and another blogland exists with the complicated new format on the dark side. Some bloggers have moved to the dark side, and other bloggers remain on the light side. Given that what is posted on the dark side does not appear here on the light side, though what is posted here does show up on the other side, it means that there is no single communal blogland. Things are definitely much quieter on the light side as the dark side sucks bloggers in. Given that this situation is increasingly untenable and given that the site will move us all over to the dark side whether we like it or not, I am now preparing myself for the dark side. I am looking for help and tips from the dark side bloggers to help me navigate this journey. I am going to ask lots of questions. Have you moved over to the dark side? If not moved, do you plan to move over to the dark side or will you call it a day with blogland? Do dark side bloggers re-post their posts on the light side after posting them on the dark side? Do light side bloggers check comments on their blog posts on the dark side as well as the light side? My blogging needs are quite basic. I like to submit a blog post, with a few photos, a few times a week; I like to read and reply to comments on my blog posts; I like to read and comment on the blogs I follow; and I like to read the replies to the comments I post on blogs. A few days ago, I entered the dark side. It seemed much better than when I last entered. It is still a little busy and it is a little difficult having to remember the names of the blogs I follow as opposed to the usernames of the bloggers. I wonder whether bloggers will remember that my blog is called Sexy Times! The system of alerts on the dark side telling me that someone has commented on my blog or replied to my comment on their blog seems very confusing and quite arbitrary. The alerts system seems partial and out-of-date. However, there seems to be no glitches on the dark side. No stolen words, no mangled apostrophes! What are the upsides of the dark side? What are the downsides of the dark side? If already on the dark side, what tips would you give me as I move over? How do you ensure that you keep track of all new comments on your blog posts and all replies to your comments on the posts of other bloggers? Is the help function on the dark side helpful? When I move over to the dark side, I am going to edit the blurb describing my blog ensuring that the description is contained in a few lines as I suspect people will not click to read further details. I also want a private, sticky mailbox post for people to leave messages for me. Are sticky posts allowed on the dark side? Can comments on blog posts be made private on the dark side? Given how blog posts are shown in the dark side, it looks as if the first few lines of a post are critical as they are the ones that people initially see when roam around the dark side. I am going to have get to the point quicker when I move over to the dark side. I am presuming that I do not have to post an obligatory first comment on my blog post for it to register. Do the bold, underline and italics functions still operate on the dark side? Is there a choice of colours and fonts on the dark side? How many photos can be uploaded with a blog post on the dark side? Is it simple to upload photos with a blog post on the dark side? Is it easy to reply to comments on a blog post on the dark side? There are levels and kudos on the dark side. I am not sure what my ascribed level 10 means and I am not sure what kudos are all about. Here on the light side, I have amassed a lot of points. Presumably, my points cannot be taken with me into the dark side. If I cannot take my points over, I am going to trade them in for a lightsaber to protect me against the evil of the dark side! |

For those who have commented on my blog posts on the dark side, my apologies for not replying. I have not got round to checking my blog regularly on the dark side. It’s difficult enough keeping on top of things just on the light side!

That other place is currently usable but confusing and glitchy too. Darth Cornu doesn't listen to the requests of those who post "over there". Hence little is actual functional changes. The "Authority" whats it to be like FarceBook and it is - it sucks. That said, since it will be forced upon us at some point I will likely be there but not as much as I am in the light. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

following this post. Thanks spunky. Also ask about the sharing of info/posts to other social media sites....earlier there was a talk of a share button. If we cant take our points.....i wont be there. Ive spent more than a decade amassing points. Like you...i find blogs by pictures or user names....not blog titles. The other thing i noticed is that there are no ages associated with blog posters. Im not interested in reading a 20 something year olds blog. Ive checked in over there and im following a few but i cant find my regulars. Thanks for posting your blog name~~

ohhhhh.....and i also cant find " where im quoted " over there. ugh ~

"Are sticky posts allowed on the dark side? Can comments on blog posts be made private on the dark side?" I'm curious about both of those and would love an answer. I know at one point, our "private mailboxes" weren't so private on the dark side. Nothing quite like finding out someone wanted to air all of our private conversations...and possibly our dirty laundry. Thanks Darth Cornu!

I started posting over there this week. My plan is to do posts there, taking advantage of no word disappearances or AAAA's; and on this side just do a short post giving people a heads up that I have a new post in beta (yes, I'm trying to do my part to sorta force people to at least go check it out). I think the upsides are 1) no glitches 2) I'm doing more browsing of blogs that I don't follow (on either the New or Trending lists), because the format of a listing with the first few lines of the post gives me an idea of whether I'm going to want to click and read the whole thing. 3) posts and comments appear pretty much immediately, and comment replies are neatly arranged into threads, so it's much easier to have a 'conversation' in the blog comments. Downsides? 1) Alerts aren't really working yet. I've gotten in the habit of just checking my feed to to see if there are new posts from bloggers who I follow. 2) I wouldn't count on having a private message post that's truly private; I'm still seeing reports of people being able to see other people's comments. 3) A few of us have been having debates with Andrew about the handling of pictures. My personal philosophy here is that I'm willing to do a little low-key exhibitionism for fun, but I'm pretty happy with it only being seen by people who follow my blog, and the occasional stray. With the new feed showing thumbnail photos, that is a little more visibility than I want. In addition, yesterday Andrew previewed what the site's home page will look like. There will be a new section on the right hand side for Community, and there will be a revolving display of trending blog posts - again with a good sized picture preview. All of this is a pretty strong disincentive for me to post pictures of myself in my blog posts. Other bloggers who aren't worried about keeping a low profile don't like the previews because they feel that they spoil any "story" they might be trying to tell in their post as the reader scrolls down and pictures are revealed.

Great questions and here are my responses to them.. Have you moved over to the dark side? Yes If not moved, do you plan to mover over to the dark side or will you call it a day with blogland? Do we really have a choice.. Do the dark side bloggers re-post their posts on the light side after posting them on the dark side? I hear there is no issues with that. Do the light side bloggers check comments on their blog posts on the dark side as well as the light side? I do on both sides What are the upsides of the dark side? Yes I hear we don't have to fix our posts What are the downsides of the dark side? For me not being able to use my bling or colors for my blogs. If already on the dark side, what tips would you give me as I move over? I don't have any tips as I don't care for that place. Only moved because I was asked to and really we don't have a choice other than to move there. How do you ensure that you keep track of all new comments on your blog posts and all replies to your comments on the posts of other bloggers? I always respond to the comments I get from others on my blogs. Is the help function on the dark side helpful? WHAT HELP.. Are sticky posts allowed on the dark side? Yes they are Can comments on blog posts be made private on the dark side? That I don't know and still need to find out about. Do the bold, underline and italics functions still operate on the dark side? I haven't tried to use that yet. Is there a choice of colours and fonts on the dark side? No clue How many photos can be uploaded with a blog post on the dark side? I believe it's still ten pictures for blogs. Is it simple to upload photos with a blog post on the dark side? Yes it's pretty easy. Is it easy to reply to comments on a blog post on the dark side? That is a bit tricky to do as you have to click on the first paragraph of a persons blog and then it will take you to comments. Or that's what I have had to do so far. I hope you enjoy a sexy fun filled weekend..

This one's easy. Look on your little personalized dashboard that should pop up on the left hand side - the one that shows number of alerts, number of blog posts that you have, etc. On the bottom is "Comment Replies" and that is the equivalent to "Where I'm Quoted".

Have you moved over to the dark side? Ayup Do the dark side bloggers re-post their posts on the light side after posting them on the dark side? I don't What are the upsides of the dark side? The fact that even though there's still issues, he's actually working on it and asking for advice from members. I like not having to worry about my posts being mangled by grammar gremlins and pictures going missing. The instant comments, if you are high enough level. The hide feature which allows you to hide those peoples' blogs you do not want to see. I like the way the comments look as compared to this side. If you look at my comments in my posts since I've been posting over there exclusively, they're easy to follow. The only reason your comments look the way they do is because things are being ported over there from this side. Being able to schedule the release of posts to a future date/time. The alert system is like the way it is because this side is still active. I suspect a lot of the alert issues will clear up once this side is dark. But, I'm prepared to be wrong on this point. What are the downsides of the dark side? I would say the alert system being wonky is my biggest pet peeve, but see above. The other is the lack of readers. I have a few issues with the lack of control over my pics showing up in the feed, etc. It takes some getting used to If already on the dark side, what tips would you give me as I move over? Follow everyone's blog you want to see. Go to the popular blog list, or trending blog list or alphabetical...whatever. Follow blogs. Those blogs will end up in your feed which is labeled as Posts under your pic on the left hand side of the screen. Don't get lost in the alerts, you can see who responded to what under your picture on the right side...click the link Comment Replies to see who is responding to you. Go to settings (Gear next to your picture), click on Alerts, uncheck a bunch of those notifications. You really don't need to know if someone liked your comment, do you? How do you ensure that you keep track of all new comments on your blog posts and all replies to your comments on the posts of other bloggers? I mean, I just open my post and read through and make sure I've replied to everyone. Is the help function on the dark side helpful? Somewhat, but it could be better Do the bold, underline and italics functions still operate on the dark side? No underline, but the other two are there. Is there a choice of colours and fonts on the dark side? Yes, there's a blogger who has been putting out the code on his blog for us. MyHeartLost4U is his name, Heart Soul Etc is the blog name. He'll have what you want on colors. Fonts, not so much How many photos can be uploaded with a blog post on the dark side? I haven't tested, but I think I saw one with twelve Is it simple to upload photos with a blog post on the dark side? Yep, it's the same as here only faster Is it easy to reply to comments on a blog post on the dark side? Yes, all you gotta do it hit the reply button Levels have to do with what you're able to do over there. Lower levels' posts don't get on the feed right away, it's to deter spammers. They can't do other things, I'm not sure. Once you're an eight, it's pretty much everything goes. Points only work on the dating side and have nothing to do with the new community This week's HNW: Pink/Hearts (Or Chocolate) is available on the other side.

I am on both sides right now and check each side daily. I usually post there first now, than copy and paste it over here to the light side. There is a lot of pros over on the Dark side that are not here, yet it does come with glitches still as Andrew continually updates it daily. The one thing I do not like is what you mentioned with using blog names instead of the username. I knew you were Sexy Times but usually look for your username when following your posts. It is all still a work in progress over there and changes daily still.Only 8 photos can be added to our posts and not the ten we can put here. Keep fooling around with it along with going onto Andrews daily updates there and if you have questions, he is more than happy to answer them for you my friend..xoxo

It seems you've already received tons of responses to your questions, so I'll not replicate that effort here. Long story short: I am still posting on the light side but do monitor the dark side in anticipation of being forced over there. (I remember that happening BRIEFLY once already!!) Until they fix all the issues with photo positioning and associated line spacing around photos, I don't really think I'll be moving voluntarily. Best I can tell this is really about making the blogs phone friendly, and offers nothing to the rest of us.
