Practice The Pause

Simple advice that can have a meaningful impact on thoughts, words and actions if you follow it.

Do you stop and pause or react and deal with the consequences?

I am able to do this more readily now than when I was younger. Perhaps it's maturity and having a different perspective now through life experiences.

Rather along the lines of "fools rush in, where angels fear to tread".

I do try to get my brain in gear before opening my mouth.

Concur.

Things are rarely what they seem, in the moment, to be. A pause to process and reflect often improves both their appearance and your attitude.

I always pause and almost always realize it wasn't important.

I try to pause and cool off before I say something. I have had to practice that this week and it seems to have helped in the situation that had me angry with someone I do not even know who was working for a neighbor. By cooling off and calling the neighbor, I think the issue will be resolved to the neighbor's and my mutual satisfaction.

As with many circumstances it depends on the situation.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

This is some very good advice . I tend to react and have indeed faced many a consequence in past years.
I have had to teach myself to take the pause , I do agree it gets easier with age as we gain life experience . I slip once in a while but life is much calmer than past years

Pause... moi?
I should and sometimes I do. Other moments have me slinging from the hip and dealing with the consequences. Life is too short for regrets and keeping things in.
Besides... it causes gas if ya force stuff in.

Nothing wrong with expressing a POV when there's one to make.

Pausing now for me is a lot easier than it used to be in my younger years. We must always think before reacting as it's so important. Thanks for sharing this great reminder about Practicing Pausing my friend. I hope you enjoy a wonderful Thursday..

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

It's a lot harder than it seems now it's like the saying patients is a virtue.

Sounds like a reasonable approach, especially if it works out for you.

Isn't it amazing how taking a few moments to do so can change one's perspective?

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your experience, When others read that it can be effective, they may think twice before reacting with taking time to pause first.

Well sure, if it's yelling out to someone to prevent them from getting run over. I have done that a few times at the traffic lights when someone has stepped out, head down looking at their phone with no regard to oncoming/turning traffic.

This was not about NOT expressing a point of view. I would never suggest that. However, it is about not 'overreacting' with no regard to the impact it can have on others.

Maturity and life experience does impact how many people react in different situations. It changes our perspective and helps us weigh the importance of what we say and do.

I agree it's not easy, especially in challenging times. We have to be comfortable in whatever approach we use.

as several have noted, better than I used to be. I guess that might be one of the perks of getting older. I do still have a short fuse for telemarketers trying to sell me extended warranties though.

Those phone ☎️ calls are annoying. Here it’s ‘air duct cleaning services’ and bogus early morning calls about charges to my credit card.

I refuse to let things push me to the point of "pause" any more. Not worth the effort. Most of the time I re-focus or re-word what I am "recording" and move forward. The rare time now that I let it fly I hope folks duck because I am blunt

I don’t see the recommendation to not respond and express a point of view. Perhaps just to take a moment before saying or acting. Of course, some exceptions apply. Sometimes, being blunt is exactly what’s needed. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

It probably has appeared elsewhere. I did see it somewhere else and felt it appropriate to share on here. Although it can be difficult, thinking about what is motivating the other person's behaviour, can impact how we choose to react. Thanks for stopping by.
