The Public Orgasm: Coming Soon? No, It's Already Here!

by William Dean
(08/24/05)

I have to tell you a secret. At first, I wanted to call this The Agony and the Ecstasy, but then I remembered that a lot of people have probably never heard of nor read the great novel of that title about Michelangelo, by Irving Stone. Even the film version isn't talked about much anymore. But it sure seemed a natural, because this is all about Beautiful Agony. Never heard of it? The orgasm is known by numerous terms, ranging from the eloquent French "Le Petite Mort" to the simplistic "Getting Off." To a growing number of Web watchers, it's becoming known as Beautiful Agony.

Beautiful Agony is a Web site dedicated to video presentations of people having orgasms; in good lighting, with all the sounds and facial expressions. No, this isn't faked-up porn moneyshots or over-the-top emoting actors groaning and shrieking. This is the real deal. But only from the neck up.

Richard Lawrence and Lauren Olney co-founded beautifulagony.com as a kind of experiment and it was...Oh, I'll just let Richard tell you:

Richard: At first the whole thing was a bit of an experiment, and we didn't put any money or much time into making it work. We just got a friend to make a logo and we put up half a dozen videos from our friends. Then we e-mailed a few erotic-related news sites and told them about it, and a couple picked up on it and sent us some traffic. From there it grew quite quickly, so we added some more text to the site to sort of make it stand on its own. The first anonymous submissions took quite a while, a couple of months, I guess, though we had plenty of inquiries which never followed through. One of the problems is equipment. Most people seem to think Web cams will do the job but they just don't.

Clean Sheets: What is it, do you think, that makes up the elements for a truly classic "Beautiful Agony" video?

Richard: I think the reality is in the details. A face going through the sequence of build-up, climax, plateau, and relief is not particularly interesting in itself, but when it's embellished with all the secret little idiosyncrasies which make it personal, it becomes truly special and unique. And if you look at "orgasms" in porn, you won't see any of that kind of stuff. It's all sterilized and depersonalized. I can understand why a porn actor might not want to share their real orgasm with the camera, but they could at least do their job and research the part.

The involuntary movements, the flush of the face, the sounds coming from places we can't see -- and little rituals like licking of fingers -- are all signs of a painfully real Agony experience.

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Statement on Recent Announcements Regarding Progress in Efforts to Expand Access to AIDS Treatment in Developing Countries

Global AIDS Treatment Efforts Not On Track

The World Health Organization released its "3 by 5" progress report on January 26, 2005 at the Davos World Economic Forum congratulating itself on progress made in the drive to fight the HIV pandemic. But only 700,000, or 12%, of the nearly six million people in need of antiretroviral (ARV) treatment in developing countries have access to it today. Looking at these figures Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), which provides ARV treatment to more than 25,000 patients in 27 countries, comes to the exact opposite conclusion.

Instead of celebrating, WHO, UNAIDS, the Global Fund, the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and other institutions should be sounding the alarm. Every day, more than 8,000 people die from AIDS and every year another five million become infected with HIV. Since July 2004, only 260,000 new patients have benefited from ARV therapy in developing countries. Treatment expansion is moving at a snail's pace. From the perspective of a medical humanitarian organization working in resource-poor countries to treat people with AIDS, the global picture is bleak.

Crucial issues around AIDS treatment remain un-tackled:

- continue to be a neglected population. There are few adapted and affordable pediatric formulations for the 2.2 million living with HIV, and few diagnostic and monitoring tools suited to their needs. WHO and UNICEF continue to fail to address this.

- Due to lack of generic competition, much-needed second-line medicines are already two to 12 times more expensive than the most affordable WHO-recommended first-line generics. WHO itself describes ARV prices as an "increasingly serious public health hazard". Thus far, however, WHO and others are demanding nothing of governments or pharmaceutical companies and offer no practical solutions.

- Trade rules are interfering with generic competition, which has brought the prices of AIDS drugs down dramatically and was a prerequisite for getting donors and national governments to commit to treatment. January 2005 marks a new threat to access to medicines. India, where most of the largest producers of generic ARVs are located, no longer has the right to produce generic versions of new drugs because it is implementing the World Trade Organization ( WTO ) Agreement on Trade-related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS). This will most likely lead to a steep rise in the prices of any new drugs to treat AIDS: if the prices of second-line medicines are any indication, we are in for steep price increases.

- WHO must do much more to strengthen its pre-qualification project and the US government and pharmaceutical industry (and the private groups they fund) must stop undermining confidence in generic medicines through inaccurate and irresponsible public campaigns, but there was little discussion of this in Davos.

- The institutions gathered in Davos claimed that the many mechanisms to fund the fight against AIDS are working "in tandem" to achieve the acclaimed success. This simply isn't true. PEPFAR projects are often at odds with Global Fund projects and national policies in terms of procurement and distribution of drugs, processes for evaluating quality, safety, and efficacy of medicines, and coherence with national protocols. In fact, because of these policy inconsistencies, PEPFAR has recently been criticized for having a smaller selection of ARVs available for its 15 "focus countries" than other treatment initiatives and for spending far more money than other initiatives on these ARVs.

- On January 26, the US Government Accountability Office released a report which found that PEPFAR pays US$ 40-368 more than other AIDS initiatives per patient per year for first-line regimens because it relies only on FDA approved drugs and "does not include some FDCs that are preferred by some of the focus countries". The report explains that "for every 100,000 patients on this regimen [d4T+3TC+NVP] for 5 years, the plan could pay over US$ 170 million more than the other initiatives". In other words, PEPFAR could be treating thousands more people with the funds it is spending.

- Finally, the lack of investment into research and development (R&D) for new preventive, diagnostic, monitoring, and therapeutic tools adapted for use in resource-limited settings is completely off the international political agenda. New tools to diagnose HIV in under 18 months, to diagnose TB, and detect treatment failure, for example, are urgently needed in the field as are new and adapted drugs, vaccines and microbicides.

Unless these and other pressing issues are addressed urgently, many of those living with HIV/AIDS in developing countries will never get access to life-saving treatment or may not be able to survive once on treatment over the long-term.

Lemon Juice prevents AIDS possibly!

Lemons & AIDS

We have studied the effects of 20% lemon juice on HIV in culture, and it appears to kill the virus very quickly. Similarly, a final concentration of 20% lemon juice in a fresh human ejaculate irreversibly immobilises 100% of spermatozoa in less than 30 seconds.

Thus it might only be necessary to use about 3ml of lemon juice in the vagina to inactivate HIV and sperm. One lemon may contain up to 50ml of juice. Neat lemon juice applied to the vagina, or to the penis and foreskin is not in any way painful to the user if no lesions are present. Some people might be surprised to learn that citric acid, which gives lemon juice its acidity, is also a normal component of a man's ejaculate, so it's not a foreign substance to the body.

The dual spermicidal and virucidal effect of lemon juice cannot be patented, and hence controlled by pharmaceutical companies.
Since this is using a natural product to protect women, it should be very acceptable.

Lemon juice might also be very useful for post-coital washing of the penis, and particularly the foreskin, to protect men from HIV infection. If lemons are in short supply, lime juice would be a suitable alternative.
Conventional Western-style safety and efficacy testing of lemon juice, using HIV discordant couples where the man is HIV positive, and condoms advocated for all acts of sexual intercourse, would require large numbers of volunteers that could only be found in developing countries, and several years to demonstrate any effects of lemon juice on these rare occasions when condoms were not used.

Think we should join the Brits in becoming Limeys or Lemoneys!

U.S. Requirement That AIDS Groups Sign Pledge Against Commercial Sex Work 'Harms' AIDS Work, Editorial Says
[Sep 02, 2005]

The Bush administration's policy requiring domestic and international groups receiving U.S. funds to fight HIV/AIDS to pledge opposition to commercial sex work and sex trafficking "harms the important work the administration is funding," a Bangor Daily News editorial says (Bangor Daily News, 9/1). The Bush administration in June notified U.S. organizations providing HIV/AIDS-related services in other countries that they must sign a pledge opposing commercial sex work and sex trafficking to be considered for federal funding. The policy stems from two 2003 laws, including an amendment to legislation (HR 1298 ) authorizing the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief that prohibits funds from going to any group or organization that does not have a policy "explicitly opposing and sex trafficking" (Kaiser Daily HIV/AIDS Report, 6/10). "Of course, most people oppose ," but sex workers in many communities are "core transmitter[s]" of HIV, the editorial says. Persuading sex workers to use condoms can help stem the spread of HIV, but AIDS groups cannot "approach prostitutes and seek their cooperation when they have been required to vilify them to satisfy the political interests of the Bush administration," the editorial says, concluding, "Moralistic policies should not be allowed to hamper the worldwide campaign against this deadly plague" (Bangor Daily News, 9/1).

For some reason I was reminded of the first dirty joke a girl ever told me.

I was in first grade and this cute blonde girl asked me if I knew what one sheet and one sheet equalled? I said two sheets and she just slyly chuckled and ran away! I was in love with her for a while after that, but too shy to do anything about it!

Now if only she was naked in bed with me this instant!

Watched this HBO special by Katie Morgan pornstar. She seems very normal and smart with a 165 IQ! Much easier and better paid to be a woman in porn than a man!

While I love sex, I do not think I want to make my avocation my vocation. Too much disruption and worrying about camera angles and all that fake moaning and groaning!

How about finding a hot woman who wants to privately reenact her favorite scenes from porn videos! That might be much more fun.

Rockstar INXS again

Some observations from the show last night.

Rock is for the young. The old geezers who are the INXS band are so over the hill that who cares.

I think the studio band with four hot singers would be a great band: Mig, Marty, Suzie and Deanna! Reminds me of the hot four in ABBA who sold a few million records as I recall.

The other big problem is the INXS songs basically suck compared to the great songs sung on other nights, like Imagine, Bohemian Rhapsody, You Can't Always Get What you Want, etc.

I tried to find the great hits of INXS and they are mainly forgettable and forgotten, as the band should be from what I can see. Their former lead singer had the charisma and a new lead will have a real hard time resucitating this band.

"Be careful what you wish for" is the advice I give the singer who gets hooked up with the INXS band. The rejects may have more promising careers, as a new band called the Reborn or the Rejects!

Six years of weight lifting

In a month it will be six years I have been weight lifting twice a week at the YMCA. Not many faces I recognize there that have kept going for so long.

Some observations: Some people start out too vigorously, hurt themselves and stop. Better to start slowly and build up over a few months.

Many reps are not useful, and just one or two reps are not good. The experts recommend doing 8 reps with a weight you can, then building up to 12 reps, then raising the weight and reducing reps to 5 to 8 and working up. I do one set of 8 to 12 reps on 12 machines, alternating leg and arms, and get done in 30 minutes. Going quickly also gives some cardio benefit.

I walk over and back to warm up and cool down. The whole thing takes an hour, including shower.

Doesn't everyone have two hours a week for his or her health? Beats pills, cosmetic surgery, diseases from obesity etc.

Lets get healthy and enjoy sex for longer life!

I also walk everywhere and walk the twice a day briskly. He is healthy too!

Topper movie from 1937

TCM has lots of great old movies. Topper was one I saw recently with Constance Bennett and Cary Grant, Roland Young and Billie Burke. They all looked quite elegant, except for Roland who looked appropriately fuddy duddy.

I think Cary Grant was the most elegant man who ever graced the movies. And Fred Astaire the most adept dancer followed closely by the athletic Gene Kelly.

The studio system and black and white films has a style that Hollywood has lost. Films were made for an older demographic so could allow some sense and sophistication.

Other old favorites include Humphrey Bogart, Gregory Peck, Spencer Tracy, Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, Gary Cooper and James Stewart. More recently Paul Newman and Steve McQueen.

They really don't make them like they used to!
